Tane Mahuta

I would love to visit the wonderful Lord of the Forest Tane Mahuta.

I think it would be wonderful to see all the native trees on the walk and to see how big I am next to Tane Mahuta (I think I would be able to hide behind the tree and not be seen!).

I would love to try and count all Tane Mahuta's branches.

That is why I would want to visit the great Lord of the Forest.

  1. Hello Shjon,
I really like how you seem very enthusiastic about seeing the Tane Mahuta tree. I would also love to meet it because photos can't show the true monstrosity. I think it would be great to take your idea and take a picture in front of Tane Mahuta to see how big it it. Next time you could add in a a photo of Tane Mahuta for people who don't know.

  2. Kia ora Shjon,

Well done on completing another Summer Learning Journey post, keep it up!

We are so lucky to have some amazing National Parks and forests in New Zealand that hold some really precious treasures such as Tāne Mahuta! I have to agree with you that it wouldn't just be cool to see Tāne Mahuta but the whole National Park and all the other native plants and maybe even some native animals.
Unfortunately, Tāne Mahuta's existence is threatened by something called Kauri dieback disease that has been detected about 100m from Tāne Mahuta, luckily there are some pretty fantastic people that have put some precautions in place to hopefully stop the disease from getting the iconic tree. If you want to find out more about this, I have put in a link to a video below:

Let me know if you watch it and what you think.

Until next time, happy blogging. :)
